I have searched the internet and forums to see if I could find an answer, but evidently there isn't any. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has installed/fabricated/built lift supports for the hood on the gen 1 Dakota? I would love to be able to pull the latch and have the hydraulics/springs lift that stinkin heavy hood with the number of times I have to do that... Anyone done this? Fabricated or junkyard hopped to find something that works?
That's a great idea. Might need some fabrication, but there're kits out there that should come with the support mounting ball sockets. Redline Tuning has kits available, but for different vehicles. Principle's still the same across the board though.
So, after asking the question, I did a bit of shopping and found that Amazon had ones that were perfect, for only $15! These 300N ones were quite good, although both are required, one won't cut it.
That, plus 4 bolts that I had laying around, 4 lock nut washers which I have tons of, and its done! Way easy, way recommended! Even with AC, the fuse box on the sides, nothing hits, nothing rubs. The only thing I noticed is when pulling the hood release lever it has a stronger clunk to it. It sits right at the exact same height as the stock hood support would hold it.
All around, it is quite fantastic, super simple, you guys should do it if you haven't already!
