The only difference between them is that the 3841 and 3842 are newer versions of the 3865 and 3950. (They work exactly the same though.) The cheapest way to get one is buy a used 3865, which usually pop up in the forum classifieds and also Craigslist and Ebay for around $200. If buying a used programmer, just make sure is is VIN unlocked.
I have the SC 3865, which seems to be the most popular for our Dakotas.
I'm not sure if it works on the 2009, some sites say yes, and some say only up until 2008.
Superchips used have a forum to ask questions, but I can't find it now.
Maybe call or email them to see what will work. And report back if you do find out.
