Default Abs

Hope someone can explain this one. I bought a '08 Dakota 4x4 new and recently had to replace a front wheel bearing, the drivers side hub has the sensor for ABS the passenger side has nothing, no connector or wiring harness to plug a sensor into. I don't see any sensors on the rear. So do I have 1 wheel ABS and how did it get this way?

Your truck only has rear wheel ABS, which was standard on the Dakotas. If there were connectors on both sides, then you would have 4 wheel ABS, which was optional.

Guess I didn't explain it well. Mine has one sensor on the left front wheel but none on the right front.
So does the rear wheel ABS have one sensor on the driver side front wheel?

There is one front speed sensor in the newer (not sure what year it started, I think 2008) Dakotas that have only rear wheel ABS. Not sure why or what information that the sensor is sending to the computer. The rear has a sensor in each wheel.

Get your build sheet from Dodge, it will show all factory options at the time of build. You should see a line that states Rr Anti-Lock Brakes, meaning only rear wheel ABS. Plus it's a nice listing of how your truck is equipped.

Click --->This link <--- for your instant build sheet.
Then under Your Vehicle listing on the left, click Equipment Listing.
Put in your VIN, and there's your Build Sheet.

Thanks dakotaff! The build sheet was interesting and good to know that everything is as it should be with my truck.
