Default Better fuel economy

How's it going everybody. I'm new here. I just recently purchased a 2010 dodge dakota with the 3.7 v6. It's 4x4 with towing package and has four doors. My concern is it not getting the basic 14 mpg''s that it states it should get. I also am trying mid grade fuel. Any ideas about getting better fuel economy? I seen videos about resetting the pcm or ecu to get better fuel economy and how would u do it and is it a good thing.

Fuel economy:

Make sure tires are inflated to vehicle manufacturer's specifications (driver's side door jamb), usually 32-35 PSi.

Keep in 2WD.

Winter will always net lower MPG since it's colder out.

Change fluids, change fuel filter, make sure plugs are in good condition.

Stay off the throttle.

Remove any weight in the bed. Remove any tonneau cover or bed topper.

Resetting ECU to increase MPG most likely won't do anything. The only way you'll be getting better gas mileage via the ECU is remapping the tuning to do so.

Using higher octane gas won't do anything dollar per dollar.

absolutely if its winter your going to get less mileage. You should get at least 16 or 17 on the highway with Over drive on (converter able to lock) My 04 3.7 with 180 K on it can get that in the winter.I always keep the tires at 35psi.Also keep in mind tire type can have a noticeable impact on fuel mileage for sure.I run Destination LE2 tires and 87 octane fuel
