Default what common problems on 2000 models

I'm looking at buying me a 2000 Dakota Sport Quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7L automatic. One thing that's got me serious on this old one is it has low miles at 74000. I'm located in the south and in 03 I bought a new Ram Quad Cab with the 4.7. I kept it until 2011 until I began commuting for work. It only had 40000 miles on it when I sold it. Very good truck during that time period.

I go Friday morning the 9th to take a look at it. What things are commonly wrong with 2000 models with the 4.7 that I need to be on the look out for? Since it has 74000 miles on it I would hope the engine and tranny are in good shape since it has been routinely maintenance. I will craw up under to look for rust on body and frame and perhaps brake lines. But what else do I need to look out for?

Who can tell me what the difference is between a sport model and a ST model?

Did you mean SLT (instead of ST, which I can't find a reference to)? The Sport is a base model with body colored grill and bumpers. The SLT is the high end model. The R/T is the performance model.
My 2003 2WD has 130K + miles and has been relatively trouble free. I have replaced the water pump twice in 30K miles, and have had the front end redone (upper/lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, bearings/hubs). Had issues with evaporative emissions until I replaced all the related vacuum tubes under the hood; since then no problems at all. Have never had driveability issues.
I'm including a link to a YouTube video on this topic. This Dakota lived in a relatively rust-free environment (as do I), so you may encounter other issues related to rust problems.

Problems with 2000 (and newer) models....
1. they stopped putting the 5.2 and 5,9s in them
2. they came out with the Quad Cab and gave them a worthlessly short bed

Seriously if that truck has much maint at all, 74000 isn't much miles at all.....

I have a 2000 extended cab 2 wheel drive with the 4.7 and agree with volaredon that 74000 is not a lot of miles (mine has 142000) but here's the issues mine has (I'm also in the south aka Tennessee) and the original owner. I have gaskets that are leaking that need to be replaced, valve cover and maybe the timing chain cover (could also be a front seal), I have a rattle I imagine somewhere in the front end (ball joints upper were replaced by dealer for recall) something you should look at. Other than that it's been a good dependable vehicle that I will get repaired (the leaks aren't really that bad yet) but it has to be done. After viewing multiple videos on the process I determined my lack of mechanical skills are not up to this task.
