Is there any way to delete the a/c condenser? I really do not feel like there is a need for my truck to have air conditioning but I have not been successful in finding a bypass pulley for purchase. Is there a way that you can replace the water pump pulley with a new pulley that is farther recessed to allow for two belts to power the alternator, water pump, and power steering all together? Any help is greatly appreciated and I'm sure I will have more questions later on.
You could make a bypass pulley; chunk of aluminum or steel to bolt to the accessory drive bracket for the A/C and alternator; 2-grove idler pulley; bolt it into place, and you should be golden. Find one the same diameter and mount it in the middle, and you should be able to use the exact same belts.
Of course, the cheapest is to just leave a dead compressor on there; it can even be frozen up solid, as long as the clutch assembly and pulley bearing are in good shape.
Thank you for the reply. I've thought a lot about that option. If I was to make a mount it would have to be made out of steel and would weigh a few pounds. What do you consider a "dead" compressor?
I had one that the snap ring that held the coil popped, so when it kicked on, the coil went against the back of the pulley instead of the clutch plate pulling to the pulley - so it ripped the retaining pin out of the front, tearing the front up.
Since the pulley spins on the shaft, you could even pull the clutch plate to make SURE it never engaged; with that, you could also open one up, gut it out, and put it back together.
Okay. Thank you again for the replies. I will probably make a mount to put a free spinning pulley on it or I will continue my search for a recessed water pump pulley. If I make the mount I can post pics and an explanation on my procedure if requested.
