dakotaff That should be it, one inch spacer lifts it up 2 inches.

kingnatethegreat How’s thick of a spacer would I be looking for? There’s a rubber spacer above the strut, looks to be about 1” thick.

dakotaff Yes, you should be able to see it. But your truck should not sit level unless something was changed or added on the suspension.

kingnatethegreat If there was already a leveling kit installed, I should be able to see some kind of spacer sitting above the front struts, right? Just trying to see what’s I’m working with. Thanks.

dakotaff If your truck sits level. there is probably a leveling kit already installed.

For the 2005+ Dakotas, the only way to lift our trucks so far has been with a front leveling kit, rear blocks or add-a-leaf, and/or a 3" body lift. It's not recommended to go above a 2" leveling kit on a 4x4, it puts the CV joint at a bad angle.

You're better of going with a 2" max leveling kit, over 2" will wear out front end components and you'll be replacing parts regularly. Daystar has a 2" leveling kit that is popular, as well as the Trailmaster 1.5 leveling kit, both around $100.

Read these threads, there are a lot of the same questions asked over and over.

And if you do install a leveling kit, you should replace the struts while the front end is apart.

2005 Dakota lift kit


I'm still relatively new to this site as well as my Dakota. I got it a few months ago, and I am now looking to lift the truck, but from what I can see the options are limited. I know this subject has been gone over many times. I did find a kit online, but I wanted to see if anyone has any input on it. Here is the link:

My main concern would be my CV axles, since my truck is 4x4. The truck already sits level, but I'm not sure if the previous owner did anything like a leveling kit. My thought is that I could buy the kit, make sure everything lines up, and then check my CV angles. The problem is, I don't really know how much is "too much." If the angle was an issue, could I run a drop kit like this one for the front differential?

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
