Odd growling noise from '02 4.7

My '02 Dakota with the 4.7 has 106,000 miles. It just developed an odd 'growling' noise under the hood. Performance isn't affected, all fluids are fine and gauges read as normal. Power steering is fine. No leaks.

It seems to be coming from near the alternator...is that possible? I have never replaced an alternator for any reason other than when they were no longer functioning. Everything electrical works properly on this truck. Any insight? Thanks.

Remove the serpentine belt, then check the bearings in the alternator, tensioner pulley, and idler pulley by spinning them individually. You may not hear anything because you can't spin them as fast as the engine does, but see if you can feel any looseness or roughness in the bearings.
