You can try WD40 and it will work, but in my detail experience the best thing to use is K1 kerosene or diesel fuel. It will break down the sap, tar, bugs, and other road debris fairly easily. Store bought tar and bug removers are just that, nothing fancy. Before doing this though, make sure your truck is in the shade or in the garage. You don't ever want to put any kind of chemical on hot paint. Make sure your paint is cool. Soak a clean rag in some kero or diesel, then lay the rag on the spot you want to clean. Let it sit for about five min, then go back and using light pressure rub in small circles. The sap will break up an come off easily. Once the spot is sap free clean it with some glass cleaner to remove any residual oil, then apply wax to to spot. The wax is important because the kero strips the paint down and removes all wax that was previously on it. The wax will also help protect the paint from future sap exposure.
