Default Shock absorber recommendations?

I am replacing the worn absorbers on my 02 4x4. I’ve never done it before so I don’t really know what to look for. My driving is probably half highway half gravel/dirt roads. I would like it to maybe glide over the washboards and bumps easy, but not feel like I’m rocking the whole time I’m driving. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I would get the highest quality ones you can afford. If I were driving in the same conditions as you, I would consider Ranchos or the highest end KYB's. I hear Bilsteins are nice.

In terms of actually changing them, take your time and use lots of penetrating oil on the old ones' attaching nuts/bolts. Don't be afraid to cut off the old hardware.

There are also special tools that can help. Lisle makes a special tool that holds the end of the shock so that it doesn't rotate as you tighten the nuts.

I have changed all 4 shocks on my '04 SLT RWD. It wasn't that bad a job once I got over being willing to destroy the old shocks (front) to remove them. It's not like I wasn't discarding them anyway...
