I would first see if there are any DTCs stored in the PCM to see if there's a potential sensor problem. If, for some reason, you suspect that it may be the fuel system, check the fuel pressure first before shelling out for new parts.

Yes. Replacing a fuel module on a Dakota is a big and can be an expensive
job.
I bought an aftermarket fuel pressure guage for $15, which has
a shrader (bicycle tube valve) fitting on the end of a hose that fits
onto the test port on the fuel rail (driver's side) .

Screw that on and turn on the ignition key.. you don't need to
start the engine to read the pressure as the fuel pump pressurizes
the fuel rail to 45psi almost immediately (within 1 sec).

If you read 45psi immediately and the pressure only drops down to
30psi after about an hour with the fuel pressure guage still attached..
fuel pump and pressure regulator are good...fuel pump is not the problem.

490,000 MILES on the ORIGINAL engine??? I AM IMPRESSED!! I knew these old dodge motors could last a lifetime, but that is like four lifetimes.... congrats! Good luck with your problem.
