Hello Folks:

I have an 04 Dakota 4x4 3.7L with an engine of 80K mi, but the body is dead due to rust that taking over the vehicle.

I want to keep the engine, but want to know what other Dakota's it's compatible with.

What trucks may I use?

If this what listed in the link you included, does it mean this engine is compatible to all vehicles listed:

2002–2010 Dodge Ram 1500
2011-2012 Ram 1500
2004–2011 Dodge Dakota
2004–2009 Dodge Durango
2007–2011 Dodge Nitro
2002–2013 Jeep Liberty/Cherokee
2005–2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
2006–2010 Jeep Commander
2006–2010 Mitsubishi Raider
2002 Dodge M80

Maybe. The basic engine will be compatible - will bolt up to the transmission, etc. I don't know if all the electronics will be compatible though. To be safe, use the electronics that are already in the vehicle, including the engine wiring harness.
The other sticky problem is the tone ring, mounted on the crankshaft inside the engine, which triggers the crankshaft position sensor. Older engines used a 16 tooth ring, newer engines use a 32 tooth ring. They switched over in 2002 or 2003 depending on the model. Yours is a 2004, so it should work with any 2004 or newer model.

I think that tone ring deal was a V8 thing not a V6 thing.... if there was a difference it would be 12 or 24 teeth.... divide 6 into 16 or 32 and it doesn't come out even.
never heard of it being an issue on the V6s, most don't want anything to do w/a V6 when they can have a V8....
