I've got a 2005 dakota SLT 4.7 V8 4x4 with a 45rfe transmission.
I recently broke 90k miles.
I was casually driving down the road when the truck suddenly shifted hard and my check engine light came on. Since then i have discovered my truck has entered a failsafe mode. The truck will not automatically shift up and down gears and feels to me stuck in 3rd or 4th. However I am still able to manually shift down to 1st and 2nd as well as the rest of my gears no problem. Once I shift into drive it shifts hard, felt throughout the whole truck, and stays in 3rd or 4th gear.
I initially I had several codes. I can not find where I wrote them all down. After dropping my pan, servicing the fluids and changing out the flat and can filter I took a quick test drive after clearing the codes. Truck drove fine for a few miles, but after returning home and cycling through the gears while stationary the light came back on and is unwilling to shift on it's own. The codes I am now receiving are P0700 which says transmission malfunction and the other is B3993 and tells me to check my owners manual which says nothing about that code.
I've checked my fuses and cleaned my battery terminals in hopes of the off chance it might make a difference but to no avail. I've done everything I can think of short of taking it to a shop. I have plenty of mechanical experience as a jet engine mechanic for the Marine Corps but I lack knowledge of land based vehicles.
I need my truck for every consicevable use. Please help
Thanks
