So I have a 94 5.2l v8 with the A518 automatic, a couple of years ago it had the problem with the converter lockup not disengaging and stalling the engine, so I just parked it. (life got in the way)

so now I’ve gotten motivated (moparvated?) and want to get it going again. When this all started I bought a new lockup solenoid but never got to it. Now I’m thinking about just replacing the lockup converter with one from O’Reilly’s that is not a lockup and is a 10”vs the oe 11” and should provide a slightly higher stall speed.

So my question(s) is : has any of you done this before and is there any problems that I should anticipate ? Is this just a simple swap ?

a little background here, this was my daily driver for quite a while, I also did a lot of engine mods and ended up with 305rwhp and I drag raced it regularly typically running a very traction limited 14.40-14.50 et at 97-98mph.

any input or help is appreciated.

Good guess, but wrong. As you posted this in the 3rd Generation Dakota/Driveline forum, it probably hasn't reached too many owners who have an A518 automatic, or who have tried to swap in an after market, non-standard torque converter into that transmission.

I'd talk to one of my friends who are transmission specialists.

But that's me.

So oldmarine what do you suggest ?
Oh, I don't know. Maybe post it in the FIRST Generation Dakota/Driveline forum. I thought you might realize from my first post that this was posted in the wrong forum. But if you want it spelled out . . .
