I just acquired a 2003 SXT regular cab w/ the 3.9 V6 engine, automatic transmission. I am very happy with my purchase since it only has 67K miles and a clean CarFax. However, not very happy with the truck's highway speed. The engine sounds comfortable @ 1500 RPM, 50 mph. After that, the engine sounds like it is laboring to reach higher speeds. It runs at about 1800 rpms @ 60 mph and at about 2000 rpms @ 70 mph. Is this normal speed? The engine sounds like it could use another gear. I counted 4 gear shifts which I believe is correct but I am wondering if my torque converter is slipping even thou it does not feel like it but it is my only explanation for the slow speed at cruising rpms. I really can't live with a vehicle that I have to drive @ 50 mph on the highway.
Is this normal?

yeah it sounds about what mine runs on the highway. if you want to lower your cruising rpms then you can replace your rear ratio with taller gears. That will drop your rpms on the highway but will also hurt your acceleration.
