Hello,

My 1987 Dodge Dakota SE (3.9L, v6) won't start up.

At first I thought it was a battery because it has been getting a bit chillier but I tried to jump it with 2 vehicles. I neglected to check if I had gas and it was pretty low. I put a jerry can of gas in the truck and tried again.
By the way, the truck has been sitting for a month so.

No go. I then topped up the oil, which was also kinda low. Yeah, I'm bad at vehicles..

I've tried pouring a little gas into the carb and it would fire up, for about 3-4 seconds. It turns over but it doesn't go.

I then tried removing the battery cables for 10 minutes and no results. I'm not a mechanic, not even close. So I'm wondering what if any advice you may give me?

If there's any more info you may need, let me know.

Basic troubleshooting.

1) Fuel pressure?

2) Does the fuel pump turn on for two seconds when you turn ignition on? That is, can you hear a hum from the gas tank for about two seconds?

3) If no pressure and/or no hum, before tackling the pump, verify that the ASD relay is closing for two seconds then opening. By 1988 it was a standard Bosch auto relay pinout, so if you have one handy, you can swap that in.

How long since the last tuneup on this truck?
