While driving my '98 Dakota, which is my first five-speed, I had every gear except for fourth go out on me. Was able to get the truck home and researched the problem, and I was ready to tackle it headfirst but ran into a problem. How many bolts hold this dang transmission to the engine? Nothing I find online has good information regarding the combination I have and the ones that are at least close seem to conflict. I have a 2wd '98 Dakota with the 3.9 V6 if anyone has any good information on working on and removing the five-speed with it. I have a little under a month to get the truck driving again before I leave for school so any information is welcome.

It should be a even number of bolts. Usally 8 or 10. Losen them all before you take the first one off. Leave the two center ones ( one on each side ) tighter than the rest. Un till you have your jack in place. Don't forget to use your piolet tool when putting It back in.
