I have a 1992 dakota 3.9L w automatic transmission w overdrive.
Dipstick calls for dexron 2, will dexron 3 work?
I'm going to flush my transmission.

You can use Dextron 3, which replaced dextron 2. You can even use Dextron 6 if you'd like, the newer version is backwards compatible.

But, I thought all Dakotas used ATF+3 or 4 transmission fluid. You may want to double check, maybe that dipstick was a replacement from another vehicle.

It's best to verify what transmission you have exactly and use exactly the correct transmission fluid that it calls for don't substitute so you will avoid any problem
