Engine Oil Cooler

Good morning.
Below I have a pic of the 4.7 in my 2000 Dakota. I saw 2 plugs on the oil filter housing. My question is: if I unscrew those plugs, can I connect an oil cooler to those ports? I was thinking about using male-to-male fittings screwed into those ports and use hydraulic hoses to connect to a cooler in front of the radiator.
That's my plan. Would that work? Or are there other options?
Thanks you any advice.

I have been thinking about added capacity or an oil cooler for my 3.9 V6. Very different animal but I have been able to locate an adapter that goes between oil filter and block. Some even have a thermostat to by pass the cooler till warm enough. Hoses attach and run where you find a place to mount cooler. Steve
