How much transmission fluid do you loose on the 01 dakota,6cyl,auto, after the driveshaft has been out of the shaft ,there at yoke/seal , for about a few weeks? .
Also after warm up an in neutral,to check the fluid, does it have to have been enguaged into drive an reverse as running and /or driven- in order to get a accurate reading on transmission fluid?
My level seems to be very low at neutral with warm engine, not driven again yet,..an I want to be sure theres a proper amount in it before engaging in reverse/drive.

Any info is appreciated.

Your transmission should not leak at all. It's always a good idea to replace the seal any time you remove the driveshaft. Removing and replacing a driveshaft should be done very carefully so as not to rip, kink or otherwise damage the seal.

The proper way to check the trans fluid level is to warm the engine and put the transmission in neutral. You do not need to engage drive or reverse. It can be checked cold, but the engine should be running and the trans in neutral
