I have a 2003 Dakota 4x4 auto trans with a 4.7. I was driving the other day and my “check gauges” light came on and battery needle dropped to nothing. When I start the truck it shows charging for a min or two while driving then kicks the “check gauges” on. The alternator shows almost 14v. Battery shows a little over 12v so the system seems to be charging,( checked with warning light on and off) I even turned on everything I could to put a load on and it seemed to be charging. Had two parts houses check the battery and alternator and both check out fine. The post in the fuse box under the hood was loose and the plastic backing under it was melted off. I cleaned it and tightened it up so it makes a good connection. I was able to drive the other night for two hours before my battery died. The mechanic said I “have never seen anything like this”. I hate to drop a bunch of cash trying to rule out something, any ideas?

Thanks for your help,
Mike
