Hey all. I'm picking up a 1996 Dakota 2WD with the Magnum V8 tomorrow. Only 110,000 miles, and the owner has already done a lot of typical repairs for higher mileage (new timing chain, radiator, hoses, gaskets, brakes). I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase.

It's got the typical Dodge paint fade on the roof and hood. The roof is so bad it's down to the metal in a couple spots. What would I need to do to prime this? Do I need to do anything to the bare spots, or just sand what's left of the paint and then spray with primer?

Thanks in advance!

That's a very common issue with dodges paint. All you need is to grab some 200 grit sand paper. i prefer to wet sand cause it makes to smoother. then then just prime it. i just used a spray can of rustoleum on my roof. When down right it looks good. If you want it to look better then wet sand it again with 600grit then spray it again. Thats what i did and it looks good. i just filled/smoothed my 3rd brake light and then sanded and sprayed my whole roof like that.
