I bought a used 2011 Dakota 3.9 in November. It was time to change oil so I pulled out my oil suction device. I was unable to get the tube all the way down. I even tried to fit a much smaller tube in the dipstick tube. I cannot get closer than 12 inches from the oil. I have compared the amount of tube I am getting in with the dipstick and it is 12 inches short.
I have used this on other vehicles, including my previous Dakota.
What is going on?

Dakota's have very long, thin dipsticks. It's a long way down there. Forget your device Drain it from the bottom. BTW, it'll do a better job of getting the crud off of the bottom.

I would run a half can of seafoam in the engine and drive it about 20 miles to help clean the engine. The 4.7 is noted for getting gummed up. Also take the advice about draining the oil from the bottom. You will be able to get most of the junk out that way. I prefer 5-30 synthetic and always use premium non ethanol fuel, costs a little .more but worth it. Always change your oil filter at each change. Silby
