Hi,

I have had a random misfire code (P0300) on my 2005 Dakota 4.7L 4x4 for a little while now. It does not always pose an issue, but when it does, it cases the engine to run rough and misfires for about 30-40 seconds, then runs fine. It generally happens at initial startup in the morning when the truck has been sitting for a while, but has also happened sometimes if I go on a quick trip, then try to start it after its only been sitting for maybe 15 minutes. Another code came up after the misfire code had been present for a while: P0430, poor catalyst efficiency. I assume that these two codes are most likely associated.

Here is what I have done already/recently:
-New plugs
-New ignition coils
-Multiple additions of injector cleaner

My thoughts are that this could be a faulty/leaky injector, but any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I chased this problem for a long time, back when I had my Dakota. Finally, the truck stopped with a completely failed Crankshaft position sensor. Easy to get to, easy fix, not very expensive. I did mine in a parking lot where it failed. After that, no more "random misfires." Maybe your CPS is failing?

Check your O2 sensors - they should all be Mopar. If not, replace all of them. I had a Bosch sensor which was causing the issues. Replaced it with a mopar sensor, and it ran great. The issue was caused by the sensor sending incorrect readings, causing misfires. Let me know what you find!!
