I have a 98 dodge dakota slt 4×4 the rear universal joint popped out and i at the time had no experience with this subject. I have replace the universal joint and put the driveshaft back on 15 times probably. I replaced the straps. ( they dont make them anymore so i had to go with a gm product.. Closest match and in my observation i feel thats not the issue.. I love Dodge trucks .. But this dakota has me pulling my hair out.

I can't understand how a U-joint just pops out. Are the clips missing that hold the U-joint cross into the yoke on the drive shaft? I haven't watched this entire video, but if you do there should be a light that comes on in your head when you see whatever it is you have been missing in your installation:
YouTube - Changing a U Joint, or Universal Joint, in a Drive Shaft
Ive replaced the clips with each application. Im going to put a gopro under there tomorrow and try to catch the failure

I think the first few times the drive shaft was off center and unbalanced
How could it be off center if installed properly?

And if it was unbalanced, it's still unbalanced.

It doesn't magically go into and out of balance.
