So I’ve taken my truck to three transmission different shops after it went into limp a few years ago but I keep getting the same problem. The transmission doesn’t go into gear after sitting until I rev the engine and then kinda clunks into gear. I’m done taking it to transmission shops because of this and I’m probably gonna have to tear the transmission apart but I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for because I hardly ever work on transmissions. So any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Just out of curiosity I'd jumper the transmission control relay (make sure solenoids have the assumed ability at this point to receive 12V) and see if the symptoms change at all. You'll get a check engine light but you can reset later. If nothing changes I'd check all the wires going to the transmission solenoids with a bit of a load, maybe a light bulb that draws at least an ampere. If you need an explanation of tests let me know.
