My truck has always done this and I’m just wondering if this is normal for the 3.9 to do this at idle

can't hear it. I have a slight ticking in my 2000 dakota w/4.7. I took it to the garage,
and he said he couldn't hear it.
So I figure it's not a big problem.

It sounds to me like lifter/valve. I had an old 62 valiant with the slant 6 that sounded like a sewing machine. Ran great. I'm not much for oil additives, but you could try Restore or one of the others that claim to quiet them. Let real mechanic listen and see what they say.. I'm just a backyard garage kind of one.
Can't tell for sure, but often a ticking noise can be from loose/broken bolts on exhaust manifolds. I did a quick search on YouTube for 4.7L ticking noise and came up with more than a couple of videos where the exhaust manifold was the problem. See this one: dodge 4.7L ticking noise

I heard it but it doesn't sound like my ticking. But thanks for the thought.
Thanks for the input I think I’ll stick to turning up the radio cause other than that and it shifting hard it runs great

My 88 3.9 had a tick and I found out the early 3.9 engine had slack in the timing chain and no tensioner. I purchased an aftermarket tensioner and new chain. No noise since install.
