So I have a 92 Dakota with the v8, L.A. series, w 4x2, my tranny is toast rn and I was just wondering what transmissions will bolt right up and fit with little other problems... I was thinking of switching over to a manual but wouldn’t mind knowing what options are out there for keeping it auto too.. I plan in the long run to put a gen3 hemi in it and heard that the L.A. is practically identical, is this true and could I use my Dakota trans with the gen3 hemi?

A 92 would be a Magnum, not a LA.

92/93 only came with autos; but 94+ got the NV3500.

The AX15, with a V6/V8 bellhousing, would also work for a while.

You would either need one that came behind a Fuel Injection motor, or hog out a hole for the crank position sensor.

IF you go big enough (NV3500/NV4500 or pick up a Tremec with the proper bell housing), the Hemi will be find feeding it. If you put in a worn out AX15, the hemi can make it into a fancy paper clip ...

IF it survived your driving that 5.2! :)

I'd look at what Tremec may offer for your truck, personally.
