Rim Configuration & Tire Size

The Dakota wheel specs are the same from 2005-2011. The six bolt wheel pattern (6 x 4.5") ended with the 2004 model.

Bolt Pattern=5 x 5.5", or 5 x 139.7mm
Offset is 25.4mm
Backspace depends on whether you have the stock 16" x 8" alloy wheels, which has a backspace of 5.5".
---------------------------Or if you have the stock 16" x 7" steel wheels, which has a backspace of 5".

A 265/70/16 tire will fit perfectly on stock suspension, that was a stock size tire that was available on the Dakotas.

A 265/70/17 tire might fit on stock suspension, but you will have to get lucky to fit that size on without rubbing. Some guys (with 7" wide wheels) have fit them on, but others (mostly 8" wide wheels) have to trim, and sometimes it was a lot. You'd be much better off getting a 265/65/17 tire if you're going with a 17" wheel. I know there is a better selection of tires with a 265/70/17 over a 265/65/17, but you're really taking a chance with the larger tire. And a lot depends on the offset/backspace of the wheel.

I have 265/70/17 tires for my winter set, but I have a leveling kit installed and I don't think they would fit on stock suspension.

There is absolutely no issues with the ABS when going with larger tires. The only thing that is affected would be that the speedometer would be off, and only slightly. Most guys don't worry about that though, they simply know how much the speedometer is off when driving. And even that is easily fixed by recalibrating the speedometer, either with a trip to the dealer (don't waste your time with this option) or using a tuner / programmer that has the ability to adjust the tire size, such as the Superchips 3865 (which is what I use).
