Hey folks, I just finished building my 408 Stroker, and got it back into my 98 Dakota r/t.
it’s Efi, with electronic distributor. Ecm controls the timing and distributor has the cam sensor plate inside the cap. Cam sensor has the mark on it to line up the rotor with, to set fuel sync. When it’s at TDC on compression stroke.
… ok, here’s my issue, I think I got the fuel sync set pretty close, it idles at 700 rpm, but it’s rich and idle is rough. My camshaft is 234/238 @.050, 109 lsa, 105 cl. the intake valve opens at 13 degrees btdc. There is a 4 deg. Advance built into the cam already. If I want the fuel injectors sync’d to spray just after valve opens, seems like I should set the timing mark at like 11 deg. Btdc, and put cam sensor mark where the rotor is at this point. ,,, correct ? But it runs worser ( lol) there. But I can’t just set the timing marks at zero and line up the rotor there, like I would with the oem cam, because it has to be syncd to my cam timing. I am using a SCT tuner which changes the spark advance for the different tunes I have ( 6 different tunes) but idk what the timing advance is for each tune. I’m gonna put a timing light on it just to see what it says the timing is set at. But haven’t yet. But I gotta get the timing tuned gooder also.
… these are my thoughts, I’m trying to get it dialed in without the scanner, til I take it to a shop with a scanner.
… anybody got a suggestion for where I should set the fuel sync with this cam ?
… I would appreciate any input here,,, if you think it would help.
Thanks,
