Hi all, I have a 1999 3.9L V6 Dakota….want to see if I’m getting fuel pressure. How exactly do I test this with a fuel gauge? Can I buy any gauge? Do I need any special adapters/connectors or is it simply get a gauge, attach to schrader valve and crank the engine?

Removing the fuel tank cap, etc is recommended if you are going to 'open up' any part of the fuel system, i.e., fuel pump, fuel lines, injectors, etc. If you have a schrader valve in the fuel line for the injectors, this is not necessary. Just remove the cap on the schrader valve and screw on the adapter for the pressure gauge. Then turn on the key (fuel pump will work for a few seconds before starting) and/or crank the engine. Be cautious when removing the pressure gauge fitting as you may get a short spurt of fuel before the valve closes. Have a shop towel handy.
